Download: Invensys' Triconex Enters Strategic Relationship With Matrikon to Provide OPC Information Connectivity

Irvine, Calif., Nov 7, 2001 -- Triconex, a unit of Invensys Process Systems, announced today that it has reached an agreement with Matrikon Inc. (Toronto: MTK), to jointly market Matrikon's OPC Server in conjunction with Triconex's TRICON(TM) and Trident(TM) controllers. Triconex is the world leader in safety systems and critical control applications. Matrikon is the market leader in OPC (OLE for Process Control) technology.

"We chose Matrikon's OPC server because their OPC expertise is unmatched today," said Bill Chiles, Triconex product manager. "Trident and TRICON users will benefit from fast, reliable and robust connections to other equipment and applications and access to value-added OPC products such as data management and redundancy tools."

Matrikon's OPC Server enables communication between the TRICON or Trident controllers and any OPC client. The OPC Server supports both OPC Data Access and OPC Alarms and Events specifications and provides complete redundancy and fail-over capabilities.

Based on Microsoft technology, OPC is a protocol designed to bridge Windows(R)-based applications and process control hardware. It is an open standard that permits a consistent method of accessing field data from plant floor devices. OPC technology enables end-users to choose the software and hardware that meets their primary production needs without having to consider the availability of proprietary drivers.
