Download: ATSCO Implements OPC Server for Kuwait National Petroleum Company

In February 2002, Almeer Technical Services Co. integrated DCS data for the Kuwait National Petroleum Company. They chose a Matrikon OPC server to collect KNPC's refinery data in a central computer for archival and analysis. ATSCO's main task was to link a Fisher-Rosemount RS3 DCS to AspenTech's InfoPlus.21 data historian.

ATSCO project leader, Rajkumar Manickavasagam, stated, "We chose Matrikon software because it is so easy to use compared to other industry offerings. The installation was fast and uncomplicated and our training in Edmonton was invaluable. The overall support received from Matrikon was excellent."

To transfer data from the RS3 to the data historian, ATSCO used Matrikon's OPC Server for Fisher-Rosemount RS3 RNI. After installation, a Site Acceptance Test was conducted. The OPC server was configured to read from 300 points and to write to just a few points. An update frequency of 270 points per second was observed during the test, and KNPC was very pleased with the results.

ATSCO now has plans to implement Matrikon's RS3 OPC Server for another client, at multiple sites.
