Feedforward, an integrator for process control projects, needed an OPC server to help a client transfer data from a legacy DCS located in Maysville,
Oklahoma to a client application in Houston, Texas. They chose Matrikon’s OPC Genie.
With offices located in Atlanta, Tulsa, and Decatur, IL, Feedforward is an integrator engaged in process control projects using Foxboro,
Honeywell, Rosemount, Yokogawa and Allen-Bradley based control systems for clients located throughout the United States.
Feedforward was retained by ONEOK, a diversified energy
company involved in oil and gas production, to integrate a system that would transfer data from a DCS system at a facility in Maysville, Oklahoma over the Internet to a company in Houston, Texas for use in a process simulation. The DCS was a Foxboro Spectrum multi-station originally installed in 1986.
Gary Camfield, the project manager for Feedforward, says he
needed an OPC solution that would provide the connectivity. Given the age of the legacy machine, an OPC driver didn’t already exist and the project didn’t justify the expense of building a custom solution.
Matrikon’s OPC Genie (Generic Information Exchange) provided the solution he
was looking for - a product that allowed Camfield to create his own OPC server quickly and easily without programming.
