Shanghai Petrochemical’s Manufacture Execute System (MES) requires data acquisition on the PLC systems of all their main devices. A total of 51 PLC or DCS systems need data acquisition, which involves numerous models and vendors. Using a proprietary data read drive could not manage the complexity of the workload. Instead, the company needed an open, standard-based OPC connectivity protocol. The company implemented 26 MatrikonOPC servers that corresponded with the company’s system types. In addition, the company integrated several MatrikonOPC Buffers to support data collection and buffering.
