The OPC Alarm & Event Automation Interface defines a standard by which automation applications can access alarm
and event data. This interface provides the same functionality as the custom interface, but in an “automation friendly”
This version of the specification is intended to specify an OLE Automation interface that is compatible with the version
of the OPC Alarm & Event Custom Interface Specification identified in the References.
This document contains common rules and design criteria and the specification of interfaces which are common for several topics.
Specific interface specifications to develop OPC clients and/or OPC Servers (e.g., for DataAccess, Alarm&Event Handling or Historical DataAccess) are available as separate documents.
This specification is intended as reference material for developers of OPC compliant Clients and Servers. It is assumed that the reader is familiar with Microsoft OLE/COM technology and the needs of the Process Control industry.
This specification is intended to facilitate development of OPC Servers in C and C++, and of OPC client applications in the language of choice. Therefore, the developer of the respective component is expected to be fluent in the technology required for the specific component.
