"We chose MatrikonOPC because they are the leader in OPC technology. The MatrikonOPC products worked very well, with general ease of use and configuration."
Process Control Systems Engineer, American refinery
A refinery in the southern U.S. needed a solution that would enable them to transfer data acquired from a condition monitoring application, Bently-Nevada’s Trendmaster, to a Honeywell PHD process historian. The solution would increase productivity by enabling engineers to view and analyze rotating equipment data directly from their desktop. A Process Control Systems Engineer at the refinery looked to MatrikonOPC to provide him with the necessary components to make a reliable and robust solution.
To begin the project, the engineer equipped the Trendmaster with a MatrikonOPC Server for DDE. A MatrikonOPC Server for Honeywell PHD was integrated for the process historian. To facilitate the transfer of data between the two servers, MatrikonOPC’s Data Manager, a double-headed OPC client, was implemented. Once the OPC servers and client were installed, tags from one server were mapped to tags of the other system via the MatrikonOPC Data Manager. With the update frequencies for the 3,500 points set to 30 seconds, the system was left to run seamlessly.
Since integration, the solution has been performing very well. "We chose MatrikonOPC because they are the leader in OPC technology," says the engineer. "The MatrikonOPC products worked very well, with general ease of use and configuration."
