Connecting multi-vendor devices and data sources with client applications is what OPC is all about, so when the Process Control System Specialist at a European chemical plant needed to integrate a process historian with three distributed control systems, he looked no further than MatrikonOPC.
The plant was equipped with three Fisher-Rosemount RS3 subsystems. The scope of the project required a central process historian, in this case Honeywell’s PHD, to store the data from the three RS3 control systems. To make the connection between the control systems and the historian, OPC was integrated.
OPC Server for Fisher-Rosemount RS3 RNI was configured and tested using MatrikonOPC Explorer, an OPC client used to test server connections. Because Honeywell PHD comes equipped with an OPC client, connectivity with the Fisher-Rosemount RS3s was seamless. Upon completion of the project, approximately 5,000 points were being polled every minute by the Honeywell PHD.
